This is one of my favorite photos I took on my trip to Friday Harbor, WA on San Juan Island. Downtown Friday Harbor is a cute area for tourists to check out after they hop off the ferry. My husband’s grandmother and great uncle lives on the island. A dream would be living on San Juan or any other islands in the group of San Juan Islands in Washington. The island has a great agricultural and farming community outside the downtown limits. There is a delicious spot to have fresh fish & chips across from the ferry drop off. All seating are outside under a gazebo. The citizens are very friendly and approachable. Anybody who has never explored northern Washington should do so!
My husband and I lived on Fidalgo Island, the opening of San Juan Islands. Fidalgo Island is the only island out of the group that’s car-accessible. Photographers of all expertise should find easy “kodak moments” around the San Juan Islands or nearby towns in Skagit County. Skagit County holds several art festivals including the popular one in Anacortes, Washington. Anacortes Arts Festival is held each year in August where thousands of visitors from USA and Canada stay on Fidalgo, San Juan, or Guemes Island for this event.

Hello everyone!
The photographs have been delayed since previous month. I was pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Morgan few days ago. I’ll be an emotional, hormonal new mother learning how to organize each day by taking smaller naps and planning an approach for her to sleep in her crib (our addiction on staring and holding her isn’t helping). My husband has been a great help whenever I need my naps or food. There will be posted photographs this summer.

At my college, I registered for a womens studies 101 course during Summer 2007. My instructor, Archie showed his small class a film about a woman who traveled to the red light district in Saudi Arabia. The woman had a background in photography and education, so she decided to combine those skills together in good use. She instructed a group of red-light district children how to take photographs around their environment. The children living in this district had parents who work as a pimp or prostitute. Girls are expected to follow their mother’s footsteps at young ages of 12 or 10 years old. Eventually, the woman developed personal relationships with her students by helping them to get out of the drug-selling, poverty environment. The film was documentary-style for two hours. After I watched the film, my mind started to get back in the creative process for photography and other arts.
Arts are used in outreach programs as a different approach for people to understand what’s going on around them. Majoredly of the visual arts aren’t done by professionals in the community service field of photography. I believe these amateur photographers have better photographs than alot of professionals. All their photographs tell a story, showing all imperfections with a raw quality. When I saw a photograph of a smiling Indian girl with half of her face showing, in front of broken windows, it spoke to me. Her one eye showing in the photo showed happiness and sorrow. It takes practice for an artist to capture a picture or photograph contains drastically different emotions and stories.
One of my projects I’ve thought about doing for awhile is visiting animal shelters. The pet photographs may be in a collage format in my portfolio and photography website. First choices of animals were pitbulls to educate people about this breed without judging ALL pitbulls as vicious fighters. Some of the proceeds will go to animal shelters or humane society. I don’t have the details down yet- it’ll be a long process. I’ll keep everybody posted on this. For now, open your mind, heart and spirit and check out these article links: Afghani children loves those disposables!
World Foods Photography Contest
Top 10 reasons to have a photoblog

Hello readers!
My name is Jessica. In 2006, I started a website for my photographs and service: Tigereye Photographs. It’s the start of a new, eventful and exciting year to go back into my hobby and passion of photography. Photography has been my hobby since I was 13 years old. There was a photo club at my middle school, held a small group of kids being supervised by an offbeat creative teacher, Miss. Tarbet. I decided to swallow my shyness and join with my science teacher to learn this beautiful art. Her instruction in photography (and other subjects in my 8th grade year) helped me get comfortable in photography. Taking photographs is an enriching activity to do at any mood I’m in from feeling sad to happiness, like therapy.
Photography or any form of art is therapeutic. Anybody can learn how without a college degree, advanced training or certifications. I love all forms of art from 2d paintings/drawings to 3d sculpture/ceramics. Photography speaks out because it’s a type of 2d art expressing in a 3d format. A beautiful portrait of an old woman can be expressive art, if shown the right lighting, dimension, and detail.
I LOVE how versatile this field can be! Other subjects are easily used in photography. The basic sciences of chemistry are used on the developing process. Mathematics are used for chemical measurements, bookkeeping in the business aspect of photography, and matting, printing a photograph. Physical Education (PE) will be used by moving around at different angles to find that perfect shot and lifting studio equipment. History and social studies are great to know for extra facts on learning new techniques of shooting and filming for travel photography.
I can lecture more how photography is, but library books and classes will have a better formal introduction. I hope you enjoy future posts of my photography blog. Check out my photography website. Leave a comment to me anytime on critiquing, common likes & dislikes, or saying hello.
